It's All about the Pi

Park Station Blog, Gaithersburg, MD 3.14 aka is the mathematical constant the brings pie to our lives on March 14th. We've got recipes for you to try out at your apartment this month!

Today the Park Station Blog is taking a look at Pi Day — or as some refer to it, Pie Day. The number π is a mathematical constant, the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter, which is approximately equal to 3.14159, which goes on to infinity and beyond (kind of like Buzz Lightyear). We take the first three digits, 3.14, and read them as a date: Pi Day, March 14th which of course is translated to Pie Day. So we are getting into the spirit of the day and sharing some awesome pie recipes to make at your apartment as well as some great Pi Day jokes.

Pie Recipes

Cinnamon Crumble Apple Pie — This recipe offers step-by-step directions for the crust, filling, and topping, and it’s full of cinnamon apple goodness. We recommend serving it with a scoop of French vanilla ice cream.

Pecan Pie from The Pioneer Woman Cooks blog gives you step-by-step directions complete with pictures for this tasty treat. The commentary is delightful, too.

With Peanut Butter Cup Pie you get the best of chocolate and peanut butter combined in a pie. The vanilla wafer crust is a new way to experience a homemade crust. The ganache and peanut butter cup layers are just the tip of the iceberg to this scrumptious pie. Once you dip your fork or spoon into the finished product and the melted chocolate and peanut butter cups ooze out, you’ll be smitten!

Pi Day wouldn’t be complete without a whipped cream confection, and you will go bananas for this pie. It’s an amazing concoction of bananas, custard, and whipped cream from Taste of Home: Favorite Banana Cream Pie.

Of course, if baking pies is simply not your thing, there is always the option of heading out to your favorite Gaithersburg, MD restaurant that serves pie in a generous-sized slice. Foursquare came up with a list of The 15 Best Places for Pie in Gaithersburg.
