It’s true that in October pumpkin spice and Halloween are the kingpins of the season, but October has a lot more to offer. This month the Park Station blog is taking a look at other holidays that happen this month including National Pizza Month, National Gumbo Day, and to bring things back around to spooky, Frankenstein Friday. Read on for more info.

National Pizza Month

Did you know that October is National Pizza Month? To celebrate, we suggest either a visit to your favorite pizza restaurant here in Gaithersburg, MD or making homemade pizza at your apartment. Try one of these 50 Easy Pizza Recipes we found online from Food Network. Whatever you decide to do, pizza should never go uncelebrated. Happy National Pizza Month!

National Gumbo Day

October 12th is National Gumbo Day! Celebrate by making this rich and flavorful Chicken Shrimp & Sausage Gumbo to enjoy at your apartment this month. The recipe comes from Immaculate Bites and is loaded with chicken, sausage, shrimp, and crab legs. Gumbo is the perfect meal to warm you up on a chilly fall day. However you choose to celebrate, we hope you enjoy celebrating National Gumbo Day this year!

Frankenstein Friday (October 26th)

Frankenstein is the creation of Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley. The genesis of the story came from a dream, which Shelly incorporated into a story which was the result of a writing challenge issued during a Swiss vacation Mary took with companions Percy Shelley (her future husband), Lord Byron, and John Polidori. Nearly two-hundred years later the legend lives on through dozens of book, television, movie, and stage adaptations.

Thanks for reading our post today. Here at Park Station, we love to find new ways to celebrate with our residents. We hope you enjoy some of the more obscure October holidays. Happy Halloween!
